Gunung Tapis Trek
Gunung Tapis is a challenging trek and is suitable for more hardy trekkers. It is accessible from Sungai Lembing town which is located 45 kilometres from Kuantan.
Gunung Tapis is still a pretty wild mountain and the start of trekking trail is reached by 4WD via a 10 kilometres laterite track followed by a 10 kilometres logging trail. The summit trek is very challenging and uphill all the way from the trailhead. A high fitness level is obsolutely necessary for this trek as the trekking hours will be long and the trail undulating. On a good weather day, the morning sunrise is splendid and one can even see Gunung Tahan in the far distance.
After the trek, proceed to nearby Rainbow Fall by 4WD. Here the waterfall drop vertically and as it splashes down, the water is broken up and reaches the bottom as mist and in the process forms a rainbow usually between sunrise and 11am when the sun is at a certain angle. This is probably the most beautiful waterfall in Malaysia !
Sungai Lembing used to be a busy mining town and housed the largest underground tine mine in the world - today it is almost deserted since it is simply no longer economic to continue mining in the area. The State Government has plans to bring it back to life as a tourist haunt and intends to develop a mining museum on the site. |

Merapoh is a small sleepy town nearby Gua Musang, and that's where the other entrance of The National park is situated. It is accessible by road as well as train. From the train station, you can see the park entrance across the road. From there, you'll have to go to the park headquarters at Sungai Relau.
